we practiced with jam session style on hotel california chord progression. to make strum pattern more rhythmical, it’s better to make the most of bar chord. you wil be able to use the open chords effectively after getting a hang of it,but barred shape is much easier to control. when you got used to both open and bar shape,you can enjoy mixing together those shapes. so keep practice.
